FILM SYNOPSIS:

Sins of My Father tells the story of Pablo Escobar, the most notorious drug trafficker of the modern era from a new perspective: through the voice of his only son. For the first time, Sebastian Marroquin (formerly Juan Pablo Escobar) invites the world deep into the house of Escobar through photographs, recordings and intimate memories. Along the way, Sebastian reaches out to the sons of his father’s most prominent murder victims, Colombian politicians and anti-drug crusaders Luis Carlos Galan and Rodrigo Lara Bonilla. He attempts to close wounds that extend beyond three families, and across the history of the home they all once shared: Colombia. “Sebastian had turned down 50 offers to tell his story. And I think it is because he felt everyone else was trying to exploit his name, glamorize that lifestyle, etcetera.

And Sebastian liked that I was the first one proposing that we tell the story from his point of view. And that I was proposing to tell his story with his eyes towards the future, not only talk about the past. To build trust, I think two things are key: Patience. Proving to someone that you are you going to work with them for as long as it takes and you are going to be there even if it takes four to five years before they are ready to be filmed. The other one is studying. I really took my research seriously.” – Nicolas Entel. Best Documentary, Audience Award, 2010 Miami International Film Festival.
