Dominican Global Film Festival Thanks its Many Friends and Sponsors
Santo Domingo, November 15, 2008

Support for the Dominican Global Film Festival among businesses and organizations has been extraordinary. Everyone we have approached has recognized that the Festival not only provides a series of quality films and activities but also forms part of and supports the country’s educational and social pillars. The alliance with these partners could not have been more successful. Thanks to them the Festival has been able to carry the message of its slogan, “Global Issues, Personal Stories,” to all corners of the country where normally only commercial slogans make their way.

We share this dream with our supporters, the idea of a single film festival to which everyone belongs and can be part of, Dominicans in and outside of the country, communities with social, film, artistic and cultural interests as well as the general public with a taste for a good movie.

The Festival is an initiative of two non-profit organizations, the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). Both organizations have to seek funding for all their activities including the Festival. Part of their procedure is to identify companies, organizations or similar projects that have an affinity and analogous characteristics to the Dominican Global Film Festival.

As such, this great film celebration serves to bring together a variety of different economic groups that wish to distinguish themselves in society with an identity that goes beyond just their traditional commercial presence. Companies involved in this sponsorship include: Colorín, Radio Cadena Comercial, the Corripio Group, Júpiter, Abastos and Servicios, Premium Brands, Tech Film Solutions, Thrifty, Hotel Santo Domingo, or New York companies such as the Dominicana which serves the Dominican community in this part of the United States. These are among a longer list of companies which lend their services and support and to whom we wish to express our appreciation.

In addition to these various sponsors, we have established a “Friends of the Festival” program which includes international agencies and organizations with a presence in the Dominican Republic. Up until now, we have enjoyed the valuable assistance of the Spanish, Mexican and United States Embassies among others who have provided logistical support, dissemination of information, panelists and even musicians to help us with the Festival program.

Program for Companies

This year´s “Friends of the Festival” program has proved to be an interesting and unique initiative. We have developed a program with attractive packages that include discounts and promotional gifts which have allowed Dominican companies to purchase festival tickets for their employees. As of yesterday, more than 2,000 such tickets were sold.

This group of participating companies includes Konsulcorp, S. A., Panamerican Production Company, S. A,; National Institute for Public Administration; Hotel Santo Domingo; Dominican Institute for Agricultural Research; Carrefour; Bank America; Amway Dominican Republic LLC; APEC University; Harts and Associates; Trilogy Dominicana (Viva F.M.); Dominican Shell; Grupo Bon and Hache Hardware.

We are deeply honored and grateful for the support all of you have shown us.
