FILM SYNOPSIS:

The Mexican revolution began one hundred years ago with the overthrow of the country’s dictatorial President Porfirio Díaz. REVOLUCIÓN is a portmanteau film in which ten directors look back in ten short films at the violent upheaval that was to bring dramatic changes to the country. In his film,30/30, Rodrigo Plá observes commemorative events and local politician's speeches. In EL CURA NICOLÁS COLGADO by Amat Escalanate, a boy and a girl come across a priest hanging in a tree. In ESTE ES MI REINO, Carlos Reygadas describes a group of proud Mexicans who invite their foreign friends to join them for a celebration in the country. In LA TIENDA DE RAYA Mariana Chenillo reminds us that, even today, workers are sometimes paid in coupons, which, just as in pre-revolutionary Mexico, they can only redeem in shops owned by their employers. Patricia Riggen’s film, LINDO Y QUERIDO, revolves around an American’s dying wish to be buried in the land he was once forced to leave.

The titular protagonist LUCIO in Gael García Bernal’s film is enlightened by his cousin, Omar, as to the sometimes contradictory meanings of certain national symbols. Daniel has an unpleasant altercation with his wife in Diego Luna’s PACÍFICO. He winds up at the beach where he begins to realize that he can only fulfill his dreams by being at home with his family. In R-100 by Gerardo Narango, two workers try to run away from their past; Rodrigo García has the ghosts of deceased revolutionaries pay a visit to Los Angeles in LA 7TH Y ALVARADO, and, in LA BIENVENIDA, Fernando Eimbcke portrays a village that awaits the arrival of a special guest. REVOLUCIÓN – ten stories commemorating the centenary of the Mexican Revolution.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY:

Rodrigo Plá, Director of the film 30/30. His films THE ZONE (2007), and THE DESERT WITHIN (2008), have received international accolades.

Amat Escalante, Director of the film EL CURA NICOLÁS COLGADO. A self-taught filmmaker, he was a guest of the Cannes film festival in 2008 with LOS BASTARDOS.

Carlos Reygadas, Director of the film ESTE ES MI REINO. He received numerous international awards for BATALLA EN EL CIELO, made in 2005. SILENT NIGHT in 2007, won seven Ariel in Mexico and the Jury Prize in Cannes.

Patricia Riggen,Director of the film LINDO Y QUERIDO. She directed her first feature film, LA MISMA LUNA in 2007.

Mariana Chenillo,Director of the film LA TIENDA DE RAYA. Directed her first film CINCO DÍAS SIN NORA in 2008.

Gael García Bernal, Director of the film LUCIO. With AMORES PERROS (2000) he became a star of Latin American Cinema. He directed his first film DÉFICIT in 2007.

Diego Luna, Director of the film JC CHAVEZ. He directed his first film, ABEL in 2009. With AMORES PERROS (2000) he became a star of Latin American Cinema.

Rodrigo García,Director of the films LA 7TH Y ALVARADO, THINGS YOU CAN TELL JUST BY LOOKING AT HER, NINE LIVES, and MOTHER AND CHILD. A director of TV series including SIX FEET UNDER.

Gerardo Naranjo,Director of the film R-100. His film THE GOOD TIMES KID screened in Cannes in 2006 and I’M GONNA EXPLODE in Venice in 2008.

Fernando Eimbcke,Director of the film LA BIENVENIDA. Made his first feature film, DUCK SEASON in 2004. In 2008 his work LAKE TAHOE won an award at the Berlinale.
