The III Dominican Republic Global Film Festival was well received in Santo Domingo East. Beginning on Thursday November 19 through the 25th a large selection of award-winning films from the world’s most important festivals are being screened at the Film Palace on Venezuela Avenue.

This marks the first time that Santo Domingo East will be enjoying its very own film festival. Thanks to this, everyone from students to public employees and private workers are very pleased to have the opportunity to see movies right near their own homes.

Cary Joji Fukunaga’s Sundance award-winning film, "Sin Nombre", was the perfect Festival opener last Thursday at the Film Palace.

“This is perfect for me,” said Maribel Díaz minutes after purchasing her ticket. “I love movies and I don’t intend to miss a single day.” Dr. José Ángel Reyes, a physician, told us with great enthusiasm, “I’m thinking of coming more days to the Festival. I think it’s a great idea to hold this in Santo Domingo East for us who live in this area.”

Nice People

Panelist, Jerry Rudes, international coordinator of LVT Laser Subtitling, affirmed that he felt great participating for the third time in the Dominican Festival.

“Good movies,” said Rudes about the selection of films being shown in this third edition of the Festival. “And the people are nice too. Everyone is so open. There’s access to all the directors…I really like the Festival atmosphere.”

Jerry Rudes did the English subtitles for The Wind Journeys, which had its world premiere in Cannes in 2009 and was nominated for an Oscar. He also worked on: Araya, The Maid, Sergio, Only When I Dance, The Cove and The Rope, among others. “I feel good with the work done by the organization and the way the festival has developed,” said Rudes.
