DRGFF at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival
Washington, DC, May 30, 2009

Omar de la Cruz, DRGFF Technical Director, and Asunción Sanz, DRGFF Promotion and Marketing Director, attended the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, which took place May 13-24, 2009 in Cannes, France.

Filmmakers, actors, agents, distribution companies and other industry professionals came from all over the globe to showcase their latest productions in hopes of gaining worldwide acclaim.

Firmly established film industries in the USA, France, Brazil, Mexico and Spain and their promotion agencies competed with new and upcoming contenders in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Belgium, Iran, Serbia, Lebanon and Hungary, amongst others.

The rich tapestry presented by the Festival illustrated the relentless search for new cinematographic languages that depict stories from different angles and view points., During Cannes, DRGFF representatives identified quality films to feature during the 2009 Festival, while establishing an institutional presence amongst cinematic greats the world over, , Exposure to new trends and styles is fundamental to preparing a world-class program that corresponds to the Festival’s theme, “Global Issues, Personal Stories.”

During this world-class setting, DRGFF also had the opportunity to meet with new partners such as the Spanish Cinematheque, the Spanish Office of Film Promotion and the Program Ibermedia that will provide support in the development of content and side events during the 2009 edition of the Festival scheduled to take place November 18-22 in the Dominican Republic.
