Santo Domingo, October 3, 2009

The Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) received an award on Saturday for its enduring support of Dominican film, the maximum expression of which is its organization of the Dominican Global Film Festival.

PremioThe award was given by the Editorial Board of film magazine CineArte16, under the direction of Manuel Domínguez Moreno of the Dominican and Caribbean editions. The awards ceremony took place during the official closure of the XI International Film Exhibition of Santo Domingo.  Yamile Eusebio, Coordinator of FUNGLODE’s Educational Activities Program and Director of Planning, Development and Marketing of the Dominican Global  Film Festival, accepted the award for the organization.

This recognition, the first ever given by this film magazine, aims to recognize and honor those people, institutions and businesses that help and support film, its production and distribution as a basic element of people’s culture.

Along with FUNGLODE, several other organizations received awards: the Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute of Spain’s Ministry of Culture (ICAA in Spanish) “for its support in the distribution of Spanish films abroad”; Mercasid “for its support and contribution to the celebration of this XI Film Exhibition”; and to the XI International Film Exhibition of Santo Domingo “for having managed to get through the first ten exhibitions.”

PremioFUNGLODE and its sister organization in the United States, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), organized the first Dominican Global Film Festival in 2006. This year’s Festival will take place from November 18 to 22 simultaneously in four cities around the Dominican Republic.

In addition, through the Global Multimedia Institute, both organizations are developing training programs in the Dominican Republic and abroad with the idea of encouraging young talent, training experienced professionals, raising awareness and educating the general public to better understand and appreciate film and the audiovisual arts. Their emphasis is on film and television production.
